Using DSM-5 with ICD-10 Webinar Series - May 2015

The Coalition is gearing up for an upcoming training on proper use of DSM codes. Please stay tuned.

The Coalition recently hosted a 4 part webinar series on “Using DSM-5 with ICD-10”.  The series gave attendees a list of the critical issues in DSM 5/ICD 10 implementation and how to approach them organizationally. The first three webinars provided information so that providers will be able to:

  • Focus their detailed reading of the DSM 5 on those diagnoses they encounter most often in their practice;
  • Determine how they will address these changes with the individuals they serve;
  • Determine how their documentation must change to meet the challenges presented by the DSM 5 including form changes, documentation detail to support diagnoses, the introduction of new functional and risk assessments, etc.

The 4th and last webinar was a Train the Trainer for those who will need to be trainers for their organizations. The intention is to provide a list, by chapter, of the key information that needs to be conveyed to staff. This should orient them to major changes in diagnoses and/or changes in how diagnoses are made or documented.

Reengineering the Business Model for NYC’s NFP Mental Health Clinics

The broad objective of this project is to help 15-20 behavioral health agencies, with budgets of $12 million and under, to fundamentally reengineer their business models and prepare them for future financial challenges due to changing Medicaid regulations.  This project was borne from the State Office of Mental Health's restructuring of Article 31 Mental Health Clinics (Part 599 regulations).  The new clinic model significantly alters the regulatory and reimbursement methodology for these clinics.

The initial participants selected were part of an earlier study which produced an exhaustive analysis using an OMH fiscal model.  The study showed that all 70 clinics in the study would lose money and the smaller clinics risked closure.
