The Coalition Celebrates 2017 Behavioral Health Leaders

On Wednesday, September 27, 2017, over 200 providers, legislators, government officials, advocacy colleagues, consumers, and the business community came together to honor the 2017 recipients of The Coalition for Behavioral Health’s Annual Leadership Awards.

This year, we acknowledged the dedicated work of the Honorable Andrew Cohen, NYC Council Member for the 11th District in the Bronx, Jason Helgerson, NYS Medicaid Director, Patricia Lincourt, Director of the Division of Practice Innovation & Care Management at NYS OASAS, Alan Weinstock, CEO of WellLife Network, and the Campaign 4 NY/NY Housing Steering Committee. Learn more about our terrific honorees here.

Senator
Liz Krueger presented the Advocacy Champion Leadership Award to the Campaign 4 NY/NY. As members of the campaign approached the podium, Senator Krueger wondered if a protest was forming right around her!

The event kicked off with opening remarks from The Coalition’s Board Chair Mitchell Netburn and President & CEO Christy Parque who gave her appreciation to Mutual of America for hosting the Leadership Awards, as well as all of our sponsors and supporters for making the event such a success. The program was filled with levity from emcee Jason Lippman, The Coalition’s Executive Vice President, and avatars of the honorees as Behavioral Health superheroes. Coalition Heads to DC for NatCon Hill Day 2017!

On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, more than 700 advocates for behavioral health came together from all parts of the country to swarm Capitol Hill for the National Council for Behavioral Health’s Hill Day 2017.

This year, The Coalition was pleased to partner with the NYS Council for Community Behavioral Health as New York State Co-Captains. Together, we held over 20 in-person meetings with key members of New York State’s Congressional Delegation and Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand’s offices.

You can learn more about the Hill Day 2017 legislative agenda and priorities by viewing the NatCon fact sheets distributed to legislators. Even if you could not make it to Hill Day this year, you can still help advocate our federal elected officials to appropriate better resources for mental health and addictions treatment in our communities. Simply alert your legislators and help to make a difference!
