Substance Abuse Counselor

Counseling Service of EDNY


Counseling Service of EDNY (CSEDNY) is an OASAS licenced outpatient substance abuse program that provides drug treatment to persons involved in the criminal justice system. We are currently seeking a full time Substance Abuse Counselor for our Joralemon Street location in downtown Brooklyn.

Under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the ideal candidate will provide drug treatment facilitating both group and individual sessions, and will be responsible for maintaining a caseload of up to 35 clients.

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

Conducting intake assessments;
Completing client centered treatment plans;
Communicating with referral sources;
Maintaining chart compliance;
Assisting clients with case management needs;
Monitoring toxicology submissions and results;
Monitoring client attendance and addressing poor attendance in a timely manner;
Participation in weekly case conference meetings;
Participation in weekly clinical supervision.


Qualified candidates should have a degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling (LMSW, LMHC, or MHC-LP preferred), and/or a CASAC or CASAC-T and a Bachelors degree.

Should have a minimum of one year experience working in the substance abuse field.
Must have computer skills and some experience with using an Electronic Health Record.
Must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Strong group counseling experience is preferred.
Experience with Trauma Informed Care is a plus.


Salary is commensurate on education, credentials, and experience.
