Vice President, Development

JOB SUMMARY: ICL’s Vice President of Development has primary responsibility for developing the organization’s private fundraising strategy and raising a private donor budget. The Vice President of Development will coordinate special events, cultivate charitable foundation relationships, and build a strong donor database. This senior-level position works closely with the Board of Directors, directly reporting to the Chief Networking & Relationship Officer. The Vice President of Development will develop periodic two-year plans with dated goals and expectations that outline the agency’s growth over the designated period.
Raise funding from sources other than government—cultivate individual and corporate donors
•Set annual fundraising goal and create donation appeals
•Cultivate charitable foundation relationships and oversee foundation grant writing
•Plan special events to heighten awareness of ICL as an agency and to bring in more donor funds
•Plan ways to recognize ICL’s new donors
•Working with grant writers, look for new fund streams through a variety of grants available, creating a new portfolio that ICL can rely on
•Deepen existing relationship with vendors and increase the number of vendors providing support
•Oversee the use of the donor database (currently Salesforce) so that donors are logged and acknowledged as necessary
•With CEO and the rest of the Networking and Relationship Department, will work closely with Board of Directors to create Committees, disseminate information to them, and get them more involved in the everyday activities of ICL and its staff
•Direct the process of building and maintaining a wide-ranging grants portfolio, including identifying new funders, strengthening current relationships, and developing new ways of promoting ICL’s programs for support.
•Direct the distribution of regular mail appeals.
•Supervise the implementation of a variety of individual donor strategies (including establishing a planned giving effort).
•The VP, Development will work closely with the organization’s Board of Directors to help them identify and draw upon their personal and professional contacts for fundraising.
•Other related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Possess a Baccalaureate or higher degree. Five years of successful diverse fundraising and grant writing experience with at least two solid years in a senior management development role. Must have proven experience in major donor development, planned giving, individual donor campaigns, special events, foundation and corporate grant writing and reporting.
