Intake and Group Services Social Worker -350 TLC/Prospect Place

The Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS), seeks two Intake and Group Leader Social Workers for its 350 Lafayette Transitional Living Community (TLC). The TLC is a leading housing placement program in NYC serving mentally ill, homeless women. A recipient of the SAMHSA Exemplary Program Award, the TLC is recovery oriented and has participated in implementing the use of Evidence-Based Practices for homeless persons with a mental illness. Program services include: housing placement, comprehensive health, mental health, and case management services.

350 Lafayette TLC will be moving to a new location in Brooklyn in early 2017 and expanding in size.

The new location is on a tree-lined residential street and close to public transportation. Amenities include: a full medical suite and offices for the on-site medical, psychiatric, and social service teams, multiple resident lounges with TVs and computers, and outdoor garden space.


The Intake and Group Services Social Workers are primarily responsible for client intake at 350 Lafayette St. TLC. This includes screening applications for eligibility, conducting interviews, making enrollment decisions in consultation with site management, and introducing applicants to the services offered at the program. The positions are responsible for ensuring vacancies are filed in a timely manner by conducting outreach and intake interviews, and managing relationships with referrals sources and DHS as appropriate to the position.

The Intake and Group Services Social Workers also oversee the Group Services and Activities program, including providing group services, developing groups, classes and activities, and ensuring that evidence based practices adhere to fidelity standards.

The Intake and Group Services Social Workers are responsible for helping clients to live fuller, more satisfying lives in the community, helping the team to function well and meet their contractual obligations, and striving, as appropriate to their role, to fulfill the CUCS programs’ core purpose, core values, and vision statements. They are expected to understand and support the management activities that ensure the good functioning of the team and program as a whole. The Intake and Group Services Social Workers may be assigned additional responsibilities as well.

In this job, you will be able to work toward your LCSW by obtaining the necessary clinical practice hours and receiving supervision from a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.”


Master’s Degree in Social Work required (LMSW will be required when required by New York State to provide Social Work services).

Post-masters direct service experience with populations served by the program preferred

Strong clinical assessment skills

Computer literacy

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Sound judgment, good decision making skills, and a high degree of tact and professionalism

Good writing and verbal communication skills

Ability to problem-solve, prioritize, and effectively manage time

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
